Fingerpicking Guitar Solos
Guitar Learning Youths ignore Fingerpicking and many times just learn chords.who’s at fault?
Many Rock and Pop music just have guitars doing chords or Solo’s. They don’t stress the challenging undertaking of fingerpicking like what you hear in country or folk music Chet Atkins or Tommmy Emmanuel. And because the mass media which includes rock and pop is very influential to teens and kids,seems they want to learn Guitar mostly doing chords and solos , but are they limiting themselves way too much.
There’s alot more gain and fun from learning to play the whole melody and chords using fingerpicking with a simple Accoustic guitar and no electrip equipment, than haivng to get an electric guitar, speakers, and doing rock or pop solos and chords which usually require a backup band or music to sound good.
Besides, if every teen wanted to leaern electric rock guitar or pop guitar, it would be pretty noisy in the neighborhood.
i totally agree with you.
I think we can all blame fashion and pop/rock for this. youngsters feel so much cooler rippin’ along on their electric guitar, than they would if fingerpicking their acoustic. And as usual, what they want is to feel cool, get girls (or guys), and play blazing rock music.
Besides – it is so much easier to sound good while strumming, than it is when fingerpicking, which requires experience and demands a higher level of guitar control.
Moreover – not that many guitar tutors teach fingerpicking (they need to be GOOD themselves to teach this). Additionally, not that many guitar lessons courses teach it. For example, of the five top-rated courses reviewed in http://www.reviewsnest.com/GuitarLessons , only two (LMG and Jam. Acoustic) teach fingerpicking.
So kids mostly play Electric, and Yes – it IS noisy in the neighborhood 
We can only find comfort in that as youngsters grow, and as guitarists gain experience – many strive to control the guitar better, learn fingerpicking and even develop their own style.
