When playing guitar melodies, should I rest my right hand on the guitar?

Should my right hand anchors on the guitar, or hanging in the air just like when playing chords? thanks for answering

You should try to keep your right hand off the guitar as much as possible. On an acoustic guitar, sound comes from the top vibrating and your hand serves to dampen those vibrations. Ideally, your right hand is floating above the strings.
